Since 1994, the Department of Justice has invested over $14 billion in community policing efforts through the Community Oriented Policing Services, or COPS, office. With the threat of violent incidents at our nation’s schools, how can this funding help support school districts and law enforcement agencies better protect our schools?
Through the bipartisan Stop School Violence Act of 2018, the COPS office has successfully funded efforts in helping to keep our country’s schools safe and better prepared for unexpected acts of violence through the School Violence Prevention Program, or SVPP. This very successful, yet highly competitive, grant program will see around $73 million in funding per year until 2028.
